The quality of their guns, machining, assembly, accuracy, fit and finish is better than any other time since the 1960's. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for, or should be looking to avoid? And is there anything I should look into replacing right away on an older gun?Īctually right now is a great time to buy a new Colt. What decade / serial # range / is generally regarded as the best? All I know is I'd prefer an older one to a newer one. If I had the opportunity to pick up a regular MKIV Series 70, a National Match, or a National Match Gold Cup, which would be the better shooter? Given that it's going to be a range toy, should I be looking at one of the National Match pistols? I understand that they are built with slightly closer tolerances. I intend to take it to the range often and shoot the crap out of it. I don't care if it has a bit of wear, and in fact, I'd almost prefer that it look a tiny bit worn. I'm not looking to carry this gun, and I'm certainly not looking for a safe queen. To me, not much says "America" more than a Colt 1911. 45, and I've owned a couple of 1911's in the past and loved them, but now I'm ready for one that makes me exclaim "America" when I hold it in my hand.
